“And coming up at that very hour she began to give thanks to God and to speak of Him to all who were waiting for the redemption of Israel.” Luke 2:38
The prophetess Anna was a worshipper. She had been a widow for decades and she would not depart from the Temple. Every day she worshipped with fasting and prayer. When she saw baby Jesus, the Lord revealed to her that He was the promised Messiah. We see her giving thanks and proclaiming to all those who were expecting the Messiah that He had indeed arrived!
It’s remarkable to note that there were many who were expectantly waiting for the Messiah. That sense of longing should fill up our hearts as we approach Christmas Day. We rejoice that the Expected One has come and taken on human flesh. And He lived a perfect life. And He died for our sins. And He rose from the dead. And He ascended to the Father. And one day He will return to gather His Church and bring human history to a glorious conclusion. So, like Anna watched and prayed and worshipped looking for the first advent of Christ; the church today should have that same posture. We should be watching, waiting, praying, worshipping, and sharing Christ, knowing that soon He will return!
